Overview of Stem Cells Stem cell research is a revolutionary new research in which peoples lives are saved from horrendous diseases. Stem cells are harvested from a variety of places including, embroys, from the patient himself, and from the omniotic fluid during pregnancy. Stem cells can differentiate into different types of cells needed throughout the body. Stem cells can also go throught mitosis much faster than other types of cells can since they are undifferentiated. There are two different types of stem cells. Adult stem cells and Embryonic stem cells. Adult stem cells are pluripotent while embryonic stem cells are omnipotent. Adult stem cells can only change into the cells they have been programmed for, while Embryonic stem cells can differentiate into any cell. |
